BACKGROUND

Udechukwu Cyprian Ugonwanne UCHEDILI, PhD, hails from Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. He is a distinguished academic and librarian with an impressive educational background and a wealth of experience.

Dr Udechukwu holds a PhD from the prestigious University of Ibadan in Nigeria, solidifying his expertise in Library and Information Science. His educational journey began at Okigwi National Grammar School in Okigwi, where he completed his secondary education from January 1961 to December 1965.

He pursued his passion for knowledge and learning at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained his first degree, a BSc (Hons) in Physics, from September 1966 to June 1973. Eager to further enhance his understanding of the library profession, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan, earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Librarianship in June 1975.

Continuing his academic pursuits, Dr Udechukwu completed his Master of Library Studies degree from the University of Ibadan in June 1981. This advanced qualification further fortified his expertise in the field and equipped him with the necessary skills to excel in the library profession. Demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning, he obtained his PhD in Library and Information Science in June 2014, further solidifying his academic credentials.

Throughout his career, Dr Udechukwu has held key positions in esteemed institutions. He began his professional journey at the Anambra State Library Board in Enugu, working from June 1975 to December 1975. Subsequently, he served as a librarian at the IMT Enugu Library from December 1975 to September 1982.

His dedication and proficiency in his craft led to his appointment as a librarian at the Federal Polytechnic in Oko, where he contributed his expertise from October 1982 to August 2008. In recognition of his exceptional qualifications and abilities, he was appointed as the University Librarian of Madonna University in 2010, a position he currently holds.

Dr Udechukwu’s accomplishments extend beyond his impressive career trajectory. He has been recognized for outstanding achievements, including the prestigious British Council Prize in Library Studies. This esteemed honour was bestowed upon him in recognition of being the best-graduating student in the Master’s degree program in the Department of Library Studies at the University of Ibadan for the graduating class of 1980/1981.

With his vast knowledge, unwavering dedication, and extensive experience, Dr Udechukwu has made invaluable contributions to the Library and Information Science field in Nigeria.
