BACKGROUND

Professor Charles Chijioke Ntamere is a  professor of Economics, and currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Madonna University, Nigeria, Okija Campus.

Academic Qualification

  • B. A. Economics (1966), Haile Selassie 1 University ( now known as Addis Ababa University). Addis Ababa, Ethiopia;
  • M A Economics(1967), University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA;
  • PhD Economics (1970), University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA.
  • Post-doctoral study in Demography at the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA, 1977-78.

Professor Charles Chijioke Ntamere areas of specialization include public finance, public sector economics, project management, project evaluation, development economics and human resources management. In addition to his current engagement at Madonna University, Nigeria since 2013, he taught at Indiana University Northwest, Gary. Indiana, the USA between 1970 and 1980. A brief period of two years was spent at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria, between 1980 and 1981 on his return to Nigeria.

The longest stretch was at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State, Nigeria, between 1981 and 2012, while he attained the rank of Professor at FUTO in 1995. 

Further experience includes a sabbatical year experience at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York during the 2002/2003 academic year, The range of courses taught at the various universities includes micro/ macroeconomics, public finance, development economics, project management, project evaluation, urban and regional economics, and human resources management where he paid serious attention to the supervision of students projects both at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

He has since successfully completed the supervision of more than forty masters dissertations and over ten PhD theses. Also a recipient of an award as the lecturer with the highest number of successful PhD supervision during FUTO’s Silver Jubilee celebration in 2006. Published works include journal articles and two books, namely: PROJECT MANAGEMENT and TOPICAL ISSUES IN ECONOMICS.

His University administrative experience includes my present position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Madonna University, Nigeria. Earlier here, prior to which he was Dean of Faculty and Head of Department at different periods.

At FUTO, he served as Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Faculty and Head of Department at different periods. Also at Indiana University Northwest, he served as Acting Head of Department for a period. Service outside the university system includes being a full- time consultant at the African Development Bank in 1991 and 1992. He was Commissioner for Finance, Imo State, Nigeria, 1986-1988. 

Professor Charles Chijioke Ntamere belongs to a number of professional bodies chief among them being: Nigerian Economic Society (Life Member), American Economic Society and Project Management Institute, USA.
