Professor Okorie is a distinguished engineer, researcher and academic leader whose work spans industry and university education in Nigeria and the United States.
Life & Works
Professor Boniface Adeleh Okorie hails from Umuoma Okpofe in Ezinihitte L.G.A. of Imo State, Nigeria, and was born on 6 January 1944. He received a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University in 1966, followed by an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, in 1977 and 1980 respectively.
While in the United States, he was honoured for excellence in research and scholarship, including admission to Tau Beta Pi (Epsilon of Massachusetts) and the Campbell Award for scientific research from Columbia University, New York, in 1977.
His teaching career has taken him through two universities in the United States and six in Nigeria, including ESUT, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, AE-FUNAI and Madonna University. He attained the rank of Professor in 1987 and has published more than one hundred papers in national and international journals.
Professor Okorie has belonged to more than ten scientific and engineering societies in Nigeria and the United States. He is a former National President of the Nigerian Metallurgical Society and has served as a consultant to Shell Petroleum Development Company and the African Development Bank, Tunis. He is Catholic and married with two sons and two daughters.
His published and technical work covers metallurgy, materials engineering, corrosion-resistant coatings, solar energy, foundry materials, alloy development, manufacturing technology and engineering design.
