Physiology
Department
Exploring the complex mechanisms of human body function and systemic harmony to provide the scientific foundation required for modern medicine and biomedical research.
Foundations of Biological Function
Established on September 18th, 2002, the Department of Physiology was founded as a critical pillar of the College of Medicine at Madonna University, Elele Campus, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Ufearo C. S.
From its modest beginning with twenty-two pioneer students, the department has grown into a center of academic rigor, bridging the gap between theoretical biological mechanisms and clinical application to produce graduates capable of leading in medicine, pharmaceutical science, and public health.
Our Philosophy
Physiology is the study of life in action. It is the scientific exploration of how the human body's diverse systems—from the cellular level to the systemic—integrate and communicate to maintain the delicate balance of homeostasis.
We believe that a mastery of human function is the essential bridge between anatomical structure and clinical pathology. Our approach blends theoretical depth with applied research, ensuring that students do not merely memorize functions but understand the "why" behind biological existence.
Formation and Responsibility
The Department of Physiology aligns its training with the broader vision of the College of Medicine and Madonna University. Our mission is to produce professionally competent graduates who integrate scientific expertise with ethical responsibility, providing high-quality training to medical, pharmaceutical, and nursing students while advancing human health through dedicated research.
Programme Objectives
The B.Sc. in Human Physiology is engineered to produce graduates who possess a sophisticated understanding of biological systems, capable of teaching, researching, and applying physiology in professional medical and scientific settings.
Prepare high-caliber academic staff for Madonna University and emerging medical schools across the nation, ensuring sustainable growth in medical education.
Equip graduates with the pedagogical expertise to teach in medical, pharmaceutical, and nursing schools, bridging the gap between theory and clinical practice.
Empower professionals to operate effectively in industries where physiology is critical, including drug development, nutrition, sports science, and environmental safety.
Foster a research-driven mindset, preparing graduates for the rigorous demands of postgraduate training and Ph.D. attainment in Human Physiology.
Cultivate academic responsibility and an ethos of independent study, ensuring students can contribute original research to the global scientific community.
Integrate theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory experience, enabling graduates to solve real-world biological problems with precision.
