A Legacy of Societal Insight

The Department of Sociology was established in the 2002/2003 academic session with a modest beginning of only five students. Under the initial guidance of pioneering leadership, the department developed its first academic programme in consultation with leading sociological departments at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Through the commitment of seasoned academics and the support of the University management, the department secured full NUC accreditation in both 2005 and 2011. Today, the department is a thriving hub of knowledge, producing graduates who excel in banking, security, communication, and the public service, and offering advanced postgraduate opportunities.
