Anatomy
Department
A comprehensive exploration of the functional and architectural components of the human body through rigorous dissection, advanced imaging, and applied anatomical science.
Legacy of Anatomical Excellence
Established in the 2002/2003 academic year, the Department of Anatomy was founded to provide a rigorous scientific foundation for the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Madonna University, Elele Campus.
Having received interim accreditations in 2005 and 2009, the department achieved full NUC accreditation in 2012 for its B.Sc. degree programme, cementing its position as a center for professional anatomical training and biomedical research.
Our Philosophy
Anatomy is far more than the study of biological structure; it is the essential map of human existence. In the Department of Anatomy, we believe that a profound understanding of the body's architectural complexity is the non-negotiable prerequisite for all clinical excellence.
By blending classical dissection with modern biomedical imaging and histological inquiry, we cultivate a generation of practitioners who view the human body with both scientific precision and deep ethical reverence, bridging the gap between theoretical morphology and life-saving medical practice.
Formation and Responsibility
Our pedagogical framework is an extension of Madonna University's commitment to holistic education. We are dedicated to preparing our students for a life of honor, dignity, and professional responsibility, ensuring that technical competence in the laboratory is always balanced by a steadfast commitment to the ethical practice of medicine and the service of humanity.
Programme Objectives
The B.Sc. degree programme in Anatomy is designed to provide a comprehensive and systemic study of the functional and architectural components of the human body.
Identify, describe, and demonstrate the essential features of the human body across tissue, organ, and system levels.
Analyze in living subjects the position, extent, and functional integrity of organs to correlate structure with biological competence.
Master the interpretation of normal body structures through X-rays, contrast studies, angiograms, tomograms, and ultrasounds.
Apply advanced microscopic techniques to identify and differentiate structures at the cellular and tissue levels.
Determine the anatomical basis of clinical, hereditary, or embryological abnormalities to support medical diagnosis.
Analyze regional, ethnic, and racial variations in anthropometric values and measurements through scientific indices.
