The Proprietor
Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Matthew Paul Edeh, CSSP, OFR
The proprietor of Madonna University is Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Matthew Paul Edeh, OFR. He is also the Founder and Chancellor of the University, Founder of OSSISATEC Polytechnic and OSSISATEC College of Education, Founder of Caritas University, Founder and Rector of the International Sanctuary of Jesus the Saviour and Mother Mary.
He is the Founder of four religious Congregations: The Sisters of Jesus the Saviour, The Fathers of Jesus the Saviour, The Contemplatives of Jesus the Saviour (male) and The Contemplatives of Jesus the Saviour (female).
The Name
Madonna University
The name 'Madonna University' was carefully chosen by the Founder and Chancellor always to re-enact his foundational inspiration the care of a loving Mother towards her beloved children.
Although the name sounded unconventional to the NUC, it did not gain instant approval until after a series of meetings and persuasions. Thanks to the dogged efforts of the Founder and the resilient attitude of Sr Purissima Egbokpalu, who followed it up and defended the name with many convincing arguments that finally led to its approval.
The Status
Madonna University enjoys both national and ecclesiastical status. Apart from being the first private university in the nation, it is also the first Catholic University in Nigeria and the whole West African Region.
The announcement of Madonna University brought deep joy to the Catholic community in the nation and the continent at large, cementing its place as a trailblazer of faith-based higher education.
