Life & Works
Professor Charles Chijioke Ntamere is a Professor of Economics and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Madonna University, Nigeria, Okija Campus. His qualifications include a B.A. Economics (1966), Haile Selassie I University (now Addis Ababa University), Ethiopia; an M.A. Economics (1967), University of Notre Dame, Indiana; a PhD Economics (1970), University of Notre Dame; and post-doctoral study in Demography at the University of Chicago, 1977–78.
His areas of specialization include public finance, public-sector economics, project management, project evaluation, development economics and human-resources management. In addition to his engagement at Madonna University since 2013, he taught at Indiana University Northwest from 1970 to 1980, at Ahmadu Bello University from 1980 to 1981, and at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, from 1981 to 2012, where he attained the rank of Professor in 1995.
He has successfully supervised more than forty master's dissertations and over ten PhD theses. He received an award for the lecturer with the highest number of successful PhD supervisions during FUTO's Silver Jubilee celebration in 2006. His publications include journal articles and the books Project Management and Topical Issues in Economics.
His administrative experience includes Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dean and Head of Department at FUTO; Dean and Head of Department at Madonna University; and Acting Head of Department at Indiana University Northwest. Outside the university system, he worked as a full-time consultant at the African Development Bank in 1991 and 1992 and served as Commissioner for Finance, Imo State, from 1986 to 1988.
