COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
As a nation, we have watched the first and second industrial revolutions pass by without effective participation. The industrialized nations have again thrust the Information Technology revolution upon us. This revolution is still in its infancy. Many problems have been solved, but many more need to be solved to realize its promise. We aim to be active players in this revolution.
The challenge is to identify some of the problems that need to be solved in information technology and proffer world class solutions. Our efforts will be channelled through manpower development and rigorous research.
The Computer Engineering department exists to train students to build and use computers, and encourage staff and students to carry out research that will lead to inventions, new products and services that will create wealth, and eventually lead to national development.
The programme is structured to equip the students not only with General Studies and Basic Sciences but also with major Computer Engineering and other engineering courses. The department will offer a B.Eng. degree programme in Computer Engineering. The programme lasts for a period of five years for those who enter the University by Direct Entry. For the first two years students take the same common courses as those in other engineering departments. Specialization in Computer Engineering starts in the third year (or in the second year of the five year programme) and continues until the end of the final year. Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme starts from the long vacation after the third year and continues till after the first semester of the fourth year. This scheme is an essential requirement for the B.Eng. programme.
The entry requirements for admission into the department are the same as those prescribed for the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
