The Department of Civil Engineering and is in the Faculty of Engineering, within the Madonna University, Elele Campus, Rivers State.
The current academic programme of Civil Engineering covers areas of Structural Engineering, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Highway and Transportation Engineering. On these, Civil Engineering activities embrace planning, designing, construction and maintenance of such projects as structural buildings roads and highways, airports, waterways, railways, bridges, tunnels, docks, offshore structures, dams, water supply, drainage and irrigation schemes and other works including their environmental impact assessments.
The philosophy of the Civil Engineering Department is to produce graduates of high academic standard with adequate theroretical and practical background in the above project areas so as to be of immediate value to the industry and nation in general.
The Department’s programme objectives are in line with those of the Faculty and are geared towards realization of national needs and aspirations.
Graduates from the Department are expected among other things:
To possess good engineering projects and supervise their constructions, primarily I the areas of their specialization.
To possess good engineering judgment in assessing, analysing and solving unexpected problems arising in execution of projects both generally but more in areas of specialization.
To adapt and adopt innovative indigenous technology in dealing with sudden unforeseen maintenance problems in complex engineering projects.
To possess sufficient knowledge of application of engineering economy and environmental impact assessment in the selection of projects and management of public funds.
FULL TIME UME (5-YRS) DE (4-YR)
These are in the line with requirements specified by Nigeria University Commission applicable to all Universities in Nigeria. Thus, to be admitted to read Civil Engineering in Madonna University, Elele Campus, candidates must possess the minimum entry requirement of five credits in SSCE or GCE O level obtained in not more than two sittings in approved subjects â€“ Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and one other subjects. In addition, they must pass the JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) examination.
Candidates for direct entry into the Department are required to possess a minimum of lower credit of National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution or three GCE A/Level papers in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. All Direct Entry Candidates must apply through JAMB.
