Programme Background

Madonna, the first Catholic University in Sub-Saharan Africa and the first approved private university to take off in Nigeria, was founded in 1999 with the mission to lead and make the difference in the concept and administration of an ideal modern university. The institution has grown rapidly, holding tenaciously to the inspiring principles and vision of its Founding Father, the Very Reverend Professor Emmanuel Edeh C.S.Sp. Its motto, "Dignitas Scientiae et Moralis", directs staff, students and stakeholders, through their learning, lectures and exemplary life to restore true dignity to education and morality in society. The University has for its Patroness and Principal Advocate before God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus the Saviour, after whom the University is named.

The motto of Madonna University encapsulates the Catholic Philosophy of Education. It translates a departure from the current trends in Nigeria's Higher Educational Institutions and transcends common expectations by providing first rate education while demonstrating the best of human virtues with high standards in character and learning.

True to its policy of making the University an international institution, students from all parts of the world are admitted for both regular and exchange programmes in various fields of study. Professors, 'academicians and research fellows are recruited from Nigerian and foreign universities of repute.

Energized by the vigorous pursuit of its goal, the institution has continued to blaze new trails in the arena of university education in Nigeria. As the products of Madonna University make their marks in their various places of employment, the University has set in motion reflect the needs of the growing job market in the country and beyond.

Objectives

The School of postgraduate studies aims at building upon the solid foundations laid by the undergraduate programmes of Madonna University and re-enforcing positive qualities observed in the products of other Universities. It strives to perfect in the graduates, the zeal to continue in the path of academic excellence. The various faculties are equipped to refine students' capacities for identification, definition analysis, and solution of problems facing Nigeria, in particular and mankind as a whole, in various fields. Postgraduate programmes 0f various Departments are designed to teach advanced practical and theoretical research as well as the most modern techniques for handling tasks met in the working environment.
